Poor|Aug 2022The local Budget rental office called 20 mins before pickup to say there were zero available cars for rental and that I should try to book through an alternate location. I called the Budget sales/service number but had to wait 90 mins and call back as it was before opening hours. Once I connected with a representative, the only car available was a lower tier vehicle at more than $300 more expensive than what I agreed to pay at the time of my online booking, and it was not available until 4 hours after my scheduled pickup. Lol and I took a train instead.

Poor|Oct 2021The number of secondary fees / charges that have occurred since my initial rental and payment has been enormous! So far I have had an add of charges up to +$600 in unaccounted for fees. Spanking up to three months beyond the return date in August. I have had to dispute these charges from my bank multiple times as any attempts to resolve the issue from vendor (budget) has not been addressed, specifically recent charge of $450

Poor|Aug 2021To make sure I would have the SUV of my choice I booked for both a Friday and Saturday pickup. On Thursday, I went to the pick up office and spoke to the manager. I was assured that my SUV would be available, if not there was an acceptable equal and if neither was there then I would be upgraded. I got a phone call on Friday morning saying that neither budget or sister company avis had anything in any size to offer. I tried calling budget's corporate office but never reached a human being in any of their various departments. I tried calling the local office manager again and was told that I had cancelled my reservation. This was absolutely untrue. In fact he had cancelled it; probably eliminated that office needing to explain their own problem to corporate. I managed to make a last minute reservation through Thrifty/Dollar that would up costing me over a thousand dollars more and provided me with a size smaller SUV. Even though budget is the rental company that I have used the most across the years, I will never under any circumstances rent from them again. Kenneth Cole Arlington, Va

6 hours before the pick up time, I received a call telling me that the car likely would not be available. We had reserved a mini van so we could drive our son from D.C. to college in Chicago. I expressed extreme concern because it was now too late to change our plans and rent from another company. The agent indicated that he would call back shortly with an update, while he tried to locate a minivan. He did not call back. We contacted him 6 hours later and he had not even tried to locate a minivan. He then agreed (again) to look for a minivan. He called back 2 hours later and indicated that he thought it was likely he could secure a large SUV, but that instead of it being available that evening as we had reserved and requested, it would be available in the morning. Then, when we showed up at the pick up spot the next morning (Key Bridge Marriott), the agent was not there. We called his number, only to find out that the agent and the SUV were at the Crystal City Marriott. We were already delayed overnight in leaving on our trip, but we then had to drive to Crystal City to pick up the SUV. While the SUV was excellent, the experience was horrible. I have rented from Hertz for 30 years, and this was the absolute worst experience I have ever had.

Poor|Aug 2019Absolutely nothing. Had a booking reserved and had to call and talk for 15 minutes on the phone with the employee who told me there was nothing he could do.
The employee at the pickup location literally told me on the phone that I should have called ahead to make sure he had a car. He said he didnt have any cars and couldnt do anything. I told him this was unacceptable and was pointed to a helpline, who just left me stranded in DC waiting on a call.

Poor|Jun 2019Nothing, everything was terrible, they did not have my mini van. It was the worst experience I've ever had renting a vehicle as I was depending on the minivan to move, I had the loading dock at my apt. scheduled and no vehicle. Hertz never notified me that my vehicle was not there.
Everything, could have called me, could have told me a different location to get the minivan. I probably will never rent with Hertz again.

Mediocre|May 2019No one was at the counter when I arrived and I had to wait for 45 minutes. I was in such a rush at that point that I only checked the outside of the car, but when I got home realized that the interior looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned for months.

I did not receive the minivan that I reserved through KAYAK's website, nor did I receive ANY minivan from Hertz. I sent an email to KAYAK and heard back from "Shannon" from customer service, saying that any and all mistakes were made by HERTZ. My message was, in part, the following: "I rented a minivan from Hertz (Confirmation # G8204778611) yesterday (Tuesday, January 19th) for pick-up at a Hertz location in Arlington, Virginia (1401 Lee Highway, Arlington VA) on Thursday (Jan. 21st at 10am). I was to drop off that minivan on Saturday (Jan. 23, 2016 at 9am) in Lincoln, Nebraska. The rental cost was $382.67. I also purchased rental insurance, amounting to another $27.00. This afternoon (approximately 4pm, Wednesday January 20th), the 1401 Lee Highway Hertz location called, telling me that they DO NOT HAVE a minivan for me. I have been transferred from office to office, and no one can help. I need a minivan tomorrow (Thursday) at 10am, otherwise I will be stuck in DC for at least three additional days as a major snowstorm approaches. So, why would KAYAK.COM advertise a minivan rental from a Hertz location which did not have a single minivan on hand? Hertz (both that local business, as well as the Customer Service center) cannot help me with a thing...." If I cannot rely upon listings on Kayak.com, then I will need to re-direct my personal business to a responsible booking website, as well as inform my employer, my clients, my family, my friends, my fellow professional colleagues, professional affiliations, and any other person/institution in which I am affiliated, etc., that Kayak should be avoided. I expect more than just an email from a customer service representative, trying to pass the buck off to Hertz and not even providing me with a phone number to speak to someone at Kayak about my situation. I was almost stranded in Washington, DC, without a place to sleep and without any means to leave prior to the snowstorm. Kayak's response showed only indifference.
