Cheap Car Rentals in South Charlotte, Charlotte

Details of rental agreement prior to pick up. Staff wasn’t very informative or helpful

We got a car that was previously smoked in. We used the car for 10 days to travel with our 2 young children and encountered severe rain (typical North Carolina summer storms) and had bad wiper blades. I had to pull over several times to avoid dangerous driving. This is something I wasn’t expecting to check prior to the rental check out.

The rental car smelled very strongly of masked cigarettes once we turned the AC on after leaving the pick up location. I placed numerous calls to other Hertz locations along the route of our trip to inquire about switching the car but was told there wasn’t any inventory. I contacted Hertz customer service (case #0210163868) to explain the issue in hopes of some sort of remediation but was basically told there was nothing they could do. Very disappointing experience with Hertz, I’ll be exploring other rental car options in the future.

i was overcharged a day. this is unacceptable. I dropped the car on time but was overcharged.

Requested a Camry and was told "no problem" at the time of reservation. Arrived to pick up vehicle and was told there were no Camrys available. Not only was I informed that they didn't have a Camry, I was told there were no full size cars available at this location. To make matters worse, I was informed that I could be upgraded to an SUV, but I would have to pay the difference in price. So, you don't have a car that I requested WEEKS ago and I have to PAY for the upgrade? FINE..The agent told me the the only SUV that was available was absolutely FILTHY with muddy footprints and potato chips, etc on the floor...not to mention it smelled like someone smoked 10 pounds of weed in it before bringing it back. I appreciated the agent being honest with me about the condition of the vehicle before issuing it to me. I was told I could drive the vehicle over to the airport and exchange it for a clean Camry as they were available there. I specifically asked the agent to make sure this wouldn't be a problem once I arrived and was told there would be notes in the rental agreement to indicate the issue. Drove the dirty, smoke-laden vehicle to the CLT airport for an exchange. Got to the counter and was told they didn't have a Camry and was given a Rogue. This vehicle had none of the features I requested so I had to go back to the counter and request another vehicle. Stood in line for another 30 minutes and finally got a Chevy Malibu. At this point, I was done and just wanted to get on the road as I was already 2.5 hours late dealing with the car rental. Worst car rental experience EVER!

They canceled my reservation hours before my arrival. Saying they did not have any cars available.

I reserved a car twice and received confirmation of my reservation; however, I was then called the next day (both times) and told the reservation could not be honored.

The customer service at the Avis location was good. Unfortunately the vehicle I rented was extremely dirty and stunk of cigarette smoke. By far the worst rental I have ever had it but there were no other vehicles of the size I could exchange it with.
