Cheap Car Rentals in Chicago

When we went to pick up the car we had reserved there were no cars available.

Drop off and all were great. Car had some trash under the seat.

You desperately need to fix your system's integration with Enterprise's system. I modified the booking a couple times on Kayak, but Enterprise didn't get alerted to the modification. The emails I received from Kayak had the wrong pick-up locations for Enterprise, but again, because Kayak didn't properly relay the pick-up location to Enterprise, I ended up going to the wrong location. This costed me $40 to take an Uber to the correct location as well as a 2-hour delay in pick-up, almost causing me to miss my drop-off time. I should get some credit for this hassle, which is totally Kayak's fault.

The pick up experience at Payless in Chicago was horrible. Our car reservation was for 6am right when they opened because we had had a nightmare travel experience and needed to get home as soon as possible. There was nobody at this time. We waited around for a while as we saw employees arrive for all the other car rental companies. After about 15 minutes and still no one there to help us, I ended up finding a Budget employee that was able to assist as best she good. She reiterated several times throughout the process that Payless does things a little differently than them and she was unfamiliar with their process. Long story short, she ended up miscommunicating something to me (not her fault - she wasn't a Payless employee), leading to an expected nearly $100 charge on my card. The silver lining was that Payless Customer services was very nice after the fact via online inquiry. Quick responses, understanding of my situation, and accommodating to my requests. Although I had a good experience with customer service on the back end, the negative experience I had on the front end is enough to make me not use Payless again in the future.

Car we requested was ready when scheduled.

I was charged for an upgrade without being asked if I wanted an upgrade. I was charged for a full tank of petrol when I said I didn’t want that option(this was later refunded). The check-in agent was 100% on the hustle - unexpected from a ‘reputable’ company and after a long flight.

Avis staff was helpful and very friendly.

The car was reeking of weed. It was not cleaned before renting to us. We had a very poor experience. Had to wait 7 hours in the line even though we had our car booked for pick up at 8 and were there at 7. No planning what so ever, they could have just called the intervals of 30 mins booking slots and could have done everything much faster.

Jeep cherokee I rented was dangerous. Car slides with application of brakes. Calipers need work.

There were used ear plugs and a used spoon under the front seat. The car held us all and our stuff and we were able to drive home before the connecting flight even took off.

Customer service in midway airport, worse ever. Never rent car again with budget

The undisclosed manager's special's vehicle was a full size pick-up truck - a Dodge 1500 - much to my surprise. The daily rental cost was a great value for the money, but the cost of fuel was substantially higher than I had budgeted, given that I was anticipating a vehicle with a much smaller engine at this price point. The initial QR code I was given to exit the parking garage in the Chicago Loop also did not work, leading me to remain stuck for several minutes at the exit gate until I was able to get through to a human being at Hertz and explain my situation. The second QR code I was given opened the gate immediately. The 1500.Dodge Ram was offered at an extremely low daily for this make and model of truck, though I was not expecting to drive such a large vehicle in and out of downtown Chicago where parking for vehicles of this size can sometimes be difficult, not to mention the savings I earned from lower rental costs were offset by the costs of refueling a vehicle that only averaged 17 mpg.

Our car was not available at Hertz. And as of today I still have not been refunded for the insurance package. Absolutely pitiful program that allows people to rent cars that don't exist and get charged for insurance on a car that does not exist.

I was unable to utilize my reservation due to the inability to use my digital credit card on my phone because I don’t have a physical one. Very unsatisfied.

I got overcharged than what's on my receipt and don't know why. I don't mean the deposit which was refunded. I returned it with more fuel than I started with. So this is a scam rental car company that I will never use again for the $20 overcharge. Good luck loosing a customer for $20

There was a line of 100 people and only two employees working behind the counter at O'HARE location in Chicago ( meanwhile the other car rental companies next to them had 5 or 6 people working behind the counter) .. I waited in line 2 hours and 30 minutes and it was miserable because I already had a reservation at noon because I had to to to a wedding that day like 4 hours away .. A lots of nasty actitud from the people working for "thrifty" .. on top of that they FORCE me to pay an extra 30 dollars a day for my car rental otherwise I'll have to wait for an undisclosed amount of time because according to them they didn't have cars available. But after I paid the extra money the car was available . This was so disrespectful

The car itself was fine. I had to wait three hours past my reserved pick-up time for a car. This was a business trip with meetings scheduled which were greatly affected by this issue. It was clear I was not the only one.

Car was not ready at time of pickup. Had to wait 45 minutes for them to process car in and clean.

They did not have a car for me. Said maybe in the next 3 hours, no guarantee. Offered no refund. I had to find new transportation (Uber) everywhere else sold out with a 6 year old. So we were to be stranded at an airport car rental depot for hours. I feel like $50+ was stolen from me.

Car was not ready when I arrived. Waited 2.5 hours only to be given a different vehicle type since nothing similar to what I expected for several more hours
