Short shuttle ride to the rental facility, quick check in process

The car made noise at some RPM level (vibration). I notified the agent when I returned the vehicle but it did not seem to matter.

Staff was friendly enough.

Pick up experience was not good, car was poor. Mid day while all other rental companies were present with shuttles, we had to call to get picked up at airport. All was prepaid on credit card so expected to simply sign for car, decline insurance, load up and go. However, initial car provided was not in lot where we were told it was so 4 of us spent about 10 mins in mid day heat after long flight with zero assistance from Thrifty searching lot for the car...it was in a different part of lot, boxed in by another car, it had 2 flat tires so we had to switch cars. I did notice it had power convenience features but was significantly dinged and dented. Subsequent car had no power convenience features so manual windows and locks..locks was a pain since we had to continually remind each other to lock vehicle. Also car was severely under performing...major hesitation when stepping on gas, had a lot of trouble getting up hills on St. Thomas even when only a driver in car and I only weigh 190 lbs. This is not the quality of car that was advertised nor is it what I expect from Thrifty having used them for many years corporately.

Pick up and drop off were reasonably efficient. Car was good and fairly new.

Explanations at pick up were rushed and a bit confusing eg re fuel payments. Little or no information in car re what to do if break down.

Parking & rental car pickup/drop-off at STT airport is transitioning so quite the mess now. On the positive side, I unknowingly left my debit card in the rental car after returning it. Debbie hunted me down to inform me and she was kind enough to shred my card as I dealt with my bank. Very kind. On day 3 of 12 day rental, low tire pressure was displayed on dashboard. Called Budget and was told to bring in the car and “we’ll fix it”’. Despite late hour on Sunday, it was fixed in 30 minutes. Very kind again.

Staff was friendly enough but not helpful. When we arrived there were people waiting for vehicles. Some were waiting 1/2 an hour or so. The check-in process was slow. Once assigned a car, you walk a while, self document damage and go. Our vehicle was badly damaged on all four bumpers. As we would drive and hear things rattling, we were sure a bumper would fall off. It didn't, but it wasn't at all good. The return process is not clear. There's no help. Limited signage. And this is a rental place inside the airport; typically a seamless process. The cost was a very poor value at about $150/ day for a Hyundai Elantra. Do not recommend.

This is not an Avis owned rental, even thought I booked directly with Avis, when I went for pick up my wizard number was not valid and the rep at the counter simply stated they are not a direct Avis rental car agency. She also gave mis information about insurance , stating none of the credit cards would cover any insurance on their cars, which is not true. Counter lady was rude. pick up of the car , which was in very bad shape tire were nearly bald, there had been numerous dents and dings, front bumper had been struck as well, to the car none of which was marked on the slip they gave me that numerous shows locations of scratches and dents. I was also billed on a pending charge to my credit card the day of the pick up, and not the same as the contract dollar amount, first time in my many rentals down in St Thomas to have billing at the beginning. . It was also not billed under Avis but by a company called budget and this was never mentioned at pick up.

bought damage waiver at around $45/ day, then walked 10 mins to the car lot and shown the car for us that had major front and other damage to the car, then told by unrecognizable attendant that if I wanted a non-dented car I had to walk all the way back to the rental counter, the attendant was indignant about wanting to change out the car and could not believe it was that bad, then I showed her a picture and she then could say nothing and gave me a new car, the worst run operation I have ever exerienced

Was forced to purchase their insurance because I didn't have my auto insurance card with me. I did provide them the name of the carrier. Who carries their insurance card around with them? Whole thing Made no sense, and Felt like a money-grab. Car was late model but not super clean. Check out attendant was pleasant.

My car’s flat tire light was on, they told me it was just a sensor and not to worry about it. The car only had 17,000 miles on it but it was all beat up, scratched and dented and the molding was falling off the doors and trunk. On day 2 the battery died and I was stuck trying to find jumper cables for a few hours because the Avis help number was useless and the number for the local rental on the contract was never answered after about 200 tries. I was also given at least 2 other non working numbers and was on the phone with no resolution for hours that day because they could not get me in touch with the “right” people. I was unable to reach them and afraid to use the car so I did not use it for the rest of the week. Terrible car, terrible customer service.

When we picked up the car the attendant was very short with us and we could hardly follow what she was saying. This was the first time me and my new wife have ever rented a car and when she asked for us to pay we just used a debit card. We were than charged and extra 28 or so dollars a day because we didn't use a credit card, which wasn't mentioned until after she charged the card, and we weren't fully aware of this beforehand. We than asked her if we could switch our payment method to a credit card, which we had with us, to avoid the extra fee. She quickly and rudely respond that she couldn't do that for us since she already ran our card. Like I mentioned this was the first time we have ever rented a car and will likely be the last time we rent with Hertz unless we can somehow get this sorted out.

I was never informed that the car couldn’t be taken to St John, where I was staying. That’s part of the Virgin Islands and a short ferry ride away. So I was denied rental upon arrival and then forced to find a very last minute rental from Another agency. Terrible service!

The car we rented was in poor shape..broken mirrors, loose floor mats, dents and scratches galore. Ants in the back seat. But easy pickup up and drop off and convenient airport shuttle.

Price was reasonable, they didn’t have the car size we requested, upgraded to a much larger vehicle which is not a great deal on an island with very narrow streets hard to find parking and expensive gas. The vehicle was an older model which was well cleaned but did have several exterior bruises which were accounted for, no problem there. The location when returning the car was a bit tricky to find. The check in process was a bit long but the return was quick.

Was given an old car with multiple dents/scratchers and poorly performed body work. Had to come back 5 min later because rear tire was half way flat, which they inflated and it was ok. On day 3 out of 4 day rental during the trip to Walgreens the battery died. When I called for help at the provided number and gave my location I was told the help is coming in 30 min. When nobody showed up in 30 min and I called the same number I was given ridiculous excuses that they could not reach me since they didn't have my number. At this point its late at night, we left the cars with the keys in the parking lot and took taxi home. The next day when I called they said they got the car but so far refused to compensate me for one day missed rental. It will likely escalate to a credit card dispute. Will never rent from them again.

We were surprised to see what they are renting out to people. There were scratches dents and scapes peeling paint and the rear view mirror fell off. When the rental agent handed us the keys she said be gentle with your opinion of our rentals. Was embarrassed to drive it - but later we saw many like cars on the island. We asked about an upgrade- one wiithout all the dents and scratches was $500 a day. The one we rented was $120 a day. Did anyone else have similar experience?

We got there to pick the car up and the price was double what was quoted on my itinerary. The car they gave us had bad brakes so after about 4 days we had to take it back and get a different car. I wasn't impressed.

The attendant was helpful and patient! We had a million questions and she answered them all!! She also recommended two great local restaurants that were delicious! I truly appreciated the complementary airport shuttle after we dropped the rental off. I will definitely be renting from here again!!
