I got a flat tire on the highway 15 min after picking up the car and none of the hertz assistance numbers would allow me to speak with a human. It took friends of mine calling in their native language to light a fire to actually send help. Hertz is happy to charge me for that though.

Friendly staff. A few speak limited English. Beware that if you have a scrape on car, they automatically charge you $1500e and you have to get reimbursed by your cc insurer. Only way around this is to buy their insurance.

Arrived to pick up the car but they didn’t have a car available. Had to wait over an hour for them to “upgrade” us to a car we didn’t want but didn’t have a choice as nothing else was available. The car smelled like smoke but again we needed a car so we took it. Because Of the delay in getting a car we missed one of the activities we had already booked for our honeymoon.

Our experience was good. After reading a lot of reviews about extra charges, we were very careful to inspect our car for existing damages which were not noted on the car information paper. We took pictures and videos and had an agent come and verify the extra damages we found which were not listed. Aside from this, the personnel were very friendly and accommodating. The price was very reasonable at around €25/day for a compact, and we took the extra insurance at around €20/day for the peace of mind since drivers in Marseille are quite reckless (hard to find a car in the city that doesn’t have at least 15 large scratches and dents). Do your research and do your part to ensure that everything is in order before leaving a rental car agency - whether in marseille or anywhere else. Also be ready for a large guaranty by bank or credit card (mine was €600) which is generally released within 3-5 business days.

The agent who helped us was like all rental car agents I've experienced - constantly trying for the up-sell, only sharing information that would save us money when we asked specific questions, and keeping the total price of the rental vague to us until the paperwork was all printed and we were supposed to sign. Not different from other rental car agents, but certainly not better either. We were warned that specifically in Europe, rental car agencies are very particular about small spots of damage on their cars, so we documented everything with a photo and went back to talk to the rental agent with those photos before we left. I'd highly recommend everyone do this, because they updated the damage report according to our photos. The car itself was pleasant, and the return process was easy.

My credit card, covers insurance .... I also purchased insurance through Kayak for $11 a day which was $22 for 1day rental .... on top of this Eurocar employee kept insisting I buy insurance at $30 per day from them.

I rented for geneva airport return, and despite returning the car to europcar at geneva airport, they sent me on a wild chase around the airport with a very poorly written map to return the car in the french sector. This was totally unnecessary, added 1.5 hours of stress to our airport experience.

Total scam - they insisted we pay a 250 euro fee to return the car empty of fuel. A full tank of gas is only 60 euros. Basically stole 180 euros; never not had the option to return a tank full and I don’t understand how they can get away with overcharging for gas by a factor of four. Also, had to wait in line for two hours!!!! To pick up the car, with only 5 groups in front of us. Literally 25 minutes per customer. Total scam! Do NOT rent from Alamo.

Waited 3 hours to be told they downgraded our car and had no other options for 11 days. So we squeezed into a compact car instead of the compact SUV we ordered. And the engine stalled regularly and spontaneously turned off on the regular. Every person ahead of us also had downgraded cars or no car at all after having reservations ahead of time. Worst welcome ever after being on planes and traveling for hours on end. Oh and I couldn’t feed my toddler or ourselves bc we didn’t leave there until 11 pm after the wait and all local restaurants, even gas station restaurants, we’re closed.

They didn’t have the car I reserved and stuck me with a bigger one that I couldn’t park where I needed to. Then it got a flat tire And they told me they had another car for me but when I was brought all the way back to the airport, they didn’t and wasted a ton of my time before I walked next door to sixt, who had a car and treated me much better.
