Cheap Car Rentals in Punta Arenas

The gentleman who helped me at the front desk at pick-up was exceptional. He handled my rental with efficiency, clarity, and professionally. It was unclear when I got to the airport how to contact AVIS since they have no desk. I woman from one of the other agencies had to contact AVIS on my behalf so someone could come pick me up.

would have liked a newer model vehicle. Agent was really friendly and helpful offering local information. Within walking distance from cruise ship.

We were given an older car that had visible damage. Over 75k. After a day we came to realize that the tires were stripped and had no choice but to continue to use as we were ina remote location. It was very dangerous. Also there were several charges that were not explained when we first reserved the car. The end price was almost 50% more than expected. Very poor and disappointing experience.

They required me to provide a passport to rent the car, although there was nothing in the information I read prior to renting that indicated that. It just said I needed to provide an ID. This was a considerable inconvenience as I had to return to our cruise ship to retrieve the document.

This was one of the worst car rentals I have ever experienced. When I went to pick it up they required more documentation than I felt was necessary. I had to get a taxi back to my hotel and back to the rental car company. As I was filling out the paperwork I saw them messing with the tailgate which was having a hard time closing. Then was told that I couldn't drop off the car before the branch opened (my buss left at 7:30 and they open at 9;00 AM) after a few phone calls I can drop it off early but for an additional $50 (USD). I don't have many options so I had to agree. Then I get the car and it is not only dirty but there is gooey unknown substances all over the back seat. after a few minutes on the road (after being ensured the tailgate was fixed) the door open charm starts in. The tailgate gave me problems the entire time I had the car. Upon drop off I asked for a ride to the bus station, about 2 miles away. (since I paid $50 to drop off early) they called a cab and had me wait outside. I will never rent from this company again.

The pickup was problematic. One of the attendants was a total slouch, the other was great. But more importantly the car had maintenance lights on when we picked it up - so we had to burn a day while they addressed those. But the main problem is they hit us with a one way fee of 950 USD. Which would be fine, BUT Europcar and KAYAK didnt make this clear when we booked months in advance. They make it appear as if the total cost is the amount we prepaid online and hide this extra fee until you’re already at the counter and its too late. Shame on both of them.
