I like that after completing the paperwork, that you get to pick the car you want to rent/drive. What I don’t like is all the hidden San Francisco fees that California and San Francisco squeezes out of tourist to get money that has nothing to do with the rental.

We requested an eight passenger vehicle but was given a seven passenger with no options for upgrade or swap out. The employees at pick up didn’t care or make any attempt to help find an alternative option. We were willing to drive to another location to swap out cars, but we weren’t given any options other than the car they had. What could have gone better? Giving us the car we reserved. We ended up needing to find an additional vehicle to continue our trip and doubling our expenses.

I paid extra to get a midsize SUV and the advertisement was for a jeep cherokee. They gave me an older model mitsubishi outlander that had damage, scuff marks, and stains. It was fine but not worth the extra money I paid to rent it.

The Toyota 4Runner we received was nice but not newer like we are used to. That said I understand that there is a shortage of newer vehicles and I am sure that coupled with the back and forth of the pandemic has not made things easy on the rental industry. The woman who checked us in was amazing! Incredibly sweet, efficient, personable and had us out the door quickly. Also the deposit was $150 when in the past it has been $500 with other rental companies. Granted you get the money back but I’ll definitely consider Fox again for this reason and the customer service was a 10+ The cleanliness of the restrooms would be my only real complaint. But they were also very busy and moving clients through quickly so I’m sure the bathrooms are the last thing on their agenda for the day. Overall a great company to do business with.

We got a great deal from Kayak, but the car rental place charged us $200.00 to drop the car off in another state. I don't know if this is normal or they did that because of such the great deal we got from Kayak. Even with that, we feel we got the best deal in town!

we were given a huge van for 12 person. Was not what we rented .(we rented for 6 person) The front desk at San Francisco airport was extremely slow . Only one person attending . We had to wait 90 minute ,4am in te morning ! Next day we went to Oakland airport to change the originally category of car we rented . They gave us a model General Motors that did not have the chip to navégate . We decided to take it because we had meeting to attend and we have no more time to deal with this issue . Very disappointed with the car . The mirror ( retrovisores ) did not work properly . Was difficult to see the cars on the side . We call during the day to eliminate some charges like insurance . Hope they will respect this aspect . Also we wanted to be charge only the tolls used , not the fee of 250 dollars they charge us . Hope you can answer to our bad experience we had to with renting wit budget . And we are charge what correspond . Sorry about my written English . Sincerely Isabella

The vehicle had two front tires worn down to the steel belts and we began to lose air in the driver front tire half way through our vacation. They were able to swap out vehicles but it did require us to travel about an hour out of our way to do so. Not impressed with their fleet maintenance.

I had a prepaid reservation. Waited on line for 45 minutes and then was told that it would be 2-3 hours before I would get a car. I waited more than 3 hours. I was also told that they could not call or text me so I had to stay in the waiting area where there were no chairs. There were people everywhere. Elderly people siting on the floor for hours. When a person’s name was called and they went to the desk the people on line thought they were cutting the line. I explained to everyone on the line what was going on. After people waited 45 minutes and found out that they had to wait another 3 hours, some opted to take other transportation. There should have been someone explaining the problems to the people getting on line. They could have taken cancellations and maybe sped up the cars for the people who had no choice but to wait. The whole thing was a nightmare. I don’t fault the clerks for the lack of cars but they could have managed the situation better.

2 hrs queuing at the airport for the car. Walk down to the car and find someone else sitting in the car - it had been double allocated. Get another car - more time wasted. Notice an electric fault after a couple of days. Have to go and excahnge for another car. Then looked on AVIS website and notice I've been given a smaller car than the one I ordered (so many different models of SUV in the USA had no idea which was small/standard size until I checked online). Call customer service and get sent to a site 20/30miles away only to be told when we arrived they only gets cars once they've been ordered - no spare stock. Have to drive another 30miles to an airport location to finally pickup the car size I had paid for! Towards the end of the rental, the 'Requires Service' light came on, then while in Yosemite the 'low engine oil' light came on - had to find a service station to top up the engine oil!

We had to wait over an hour and a half at the Avis counter even though we had a reservation !! When we returned the car, we were charged quite a bit more than the contract! The checkin person, when we returned the car,charged us for over 1/2 tank of gas though we returned the car full !!!!! We had to see the front agent to get the charge corrected…. Another delay!

I don’t typically fill these things out, but this was the worst experience I’ve had picking up a car rental. The staff were all friendly and professional, but I waited in a line for 2 1/2 hours even though I had checked in earlier. I got to SFO at around 9:35, but didn’t leave until after 12. Every other car rental’s lines were moving smoothly. I doubt I’ll reserve from Avis again anytime soon. Again the staff was great and the car was good, despite someone clearly smoking in it. Waiting 2 1/2 ours is simply unacceptable.

The employees were kind, resourceful and worked hard. The car started, stopped and turned as expected.

The location stinks-be sure to plan on the time it takes to get there from SFO. The building is hot and dour-I feel for the employees! The car was not clean. I would pay extra to get a car at the SFO rental center next time.

It should be clearly noted on the vendor website that this is an OFF SITE airport pick up. We waited 30 minutes for a shuttle pick up that fits 6 person max in a poorly maintained van. Additional customers were left behind for another 30 minutes for later pickup. The EZ rental car in other airport locations outside of San Francisco were unlike this branch in its service, location and overall appeal. We were deeply disappointed with our rental service at the San Francisco EZ Rental car. We would rather pay a bit more for a more convenient airport location and more piedessional service the next time we're in San Francisco.

A comfortable late model car

The pickup drop off required almost 2 hours since the location is another 5-8 miles from where other rental car companies are located. And once at facility there are only 2 agents who take care of a long line. They push upgrades like the tolls for the bridge without explaining alternatives. You can pay cash everywhere and do online payment for Golden Gate Bridge. So avoid the prepayment if you are not crossing the bridge several times a day.

Rented in airport, got outsourced out of the airport to "fox" which doesn't even pick up the phone. My plans changed but I had no chance of changing my rental, forcing me to drive back to SFO to return the car. Worst car rental experience ever, didnt even know a car rental could be so unflexible, will be renting from real companies from now on.

On line it said the car can be picked up in the terminal. This is the main reason I chose this vehicle. That was a lie. We had to take a shuttle to pick up and after drop off. This is difficult with 4 kids and 8 suitcases.

We had a great experience with Europcar! No lines and great shuttle service. The thing to know is that the office where you pick up your car is at Fox, which is offsite - about a 10 minute shuttle ride from the airport. So, take the airtrain to the car rental area in SFO, then go downstairs for the shuttle to the office. Look for the FOX shuttle - a tad confusing, but the service was great and there were NO lines at the FOX office. The car return was super smooth. We'd use them again. Great value and great service.
