Fair|Jun 2018I could drop off the car in the city, rather than back at the airport.
There were a ton of extra fees, even though I was insured by my credit card, that ended up making the total cost FOUR TIMES what was advertised! This included an extra national insurance fee ($300 for 4 weeks) that was apparently mandatory. Also, as an Israeli citizen, I had to pay an additional $90 fee/tax because of that. I cut my rental by 2 weeks because I couldn't afford all the extra costs. Also, Budget only reported 1 scratch when there was a dent and about 10 scratches around the car. There was no one at pickup to confirm, so I had to take photos to prove during drop-off that I didn't cause the dent or other scratches. This ended up being fine, but it was annoying that I even had to take photos myself and that Budget didn't do this in advance. The car was ridiculously weak on the uphills (with 4 passengers), but I guess that's to be expected with the most compact. Also, at one point the A/C gave out (i.e., no cold air) for an hour during a drive. It kicked in again after stopping for a while.

Fair|Jun 2018The car ran as expected. It got us where we needed to go and the air-conditioner worked.
From the moment we picked up this car at Shlomo SixT's branch at the Sde Dov airfield, we knew that this Nissan Almeira looked terrible. There were little chip marks and loose body parts all around the car. And there we a big cross on top, left by some long ago tape. But we were in a hurry, so we took the car. Then, we started noticing some other peculiarities and weaknesses. The radio knobs were missing, so we couldn't manage to use the radio. There was only one key slot, on the driver's door, none on the passenger side. And, to compound that problem there was no automatic door opening mechanism. So, the driver had to get into the car, reach over and manually unlock the passenger door, and the others, terribly inconvenient. We were not given any remote door opener. There was only one "low" gear. One drove either in "Drive" or in "Low." Usually, of course, there is a choice of at least two or three gears lower than Drive. This car really should not be rented in this condition. Or only by a company called "Rent-a-Wreck."

Poor|May 2022First, lack of employees at the arrival counter! Come on, an International Airport and Sixt has only ONE representative to help customers. It took me over half an hour to be served. Car itself was good, with no issues issues. The main issue is that Sixt is trying to switch the currency that I booked under. I used Kayak Canada, which shows the prices that I'm paying in Canadian dollars. Well, after I booked and confirmed, Sixt is trying to charge me in US dollars!! That's almost a 30 % difference!! When I returned the car, at a different location, to 122 HaYarkon St., Tel Aviv and alerted the Manager Lior ( one of the nastiest and rudest representatives that I've ever met!!) He couldn't have care less!! Blew me off like I was a nobody!! I'll be stopping payment on the car rental till this is scam is sorted out!! All I can say is: RENTER BE WARE!!

Okay|May 2022Our experience was good across the board. However, this company needs to immensely improve their pickup operations. Our party of ten, including two infants, arrived exhausted after having traveled for 39 hours and it took nearly two hours to pick up our cars. It was 5am before we were on the road. The guy was friendly, but the whole process was tortuously slow! Also, customer service during the course of the rental is nonexistent. I was never able to get in touch with them, even though I tried at least a dozen times. They really need to step up their game.

Mediocre|Nov 2021I am familiar with Israelis and the lack of good customer service but I was very disappointed when we dropped off the car at how bad the customer service was in general. The car was fine. It came filthy on the outside which I didn’t care about but when the brushed away some dirt they tried to tell me I had an accident. It is disappointing that the people at the desk couldn’t lift their eyes from the computer screens to talk to a customer like a person.

Not trying so hard to up sell me on Insurance. Also, when I came back to the counter to upgrade the car, the staff made it very uncomfortable. In fact, the Salesperson quoted me $20 per/day which I accepted, only to have his Manager say $30 per/day is the lowest he can do...Car was great but getting the initial paperwork completed was an poor experience.

In spite of multiple phone call to AVIS Israel issue has not been resolved during 30 days of stay. At checkout, supervisor promised to take care of it. Still waiting..
Provide honest and transparent quote online including ALL costs and show the options, especially for insurance, will make the booking process easier and save aggravation later on. Show all the taxes and mandatory costs. Sugar coating the price online … then sticker shock at the counter doesn't work

Mediocre|Dec 2018Alamo did not release car without me purchasing insurance for the car from Alamo. This is despite the fact that my credit card automatically insures all my rental cars. The mandatory insurance purchase, which was greater in cost than renting the car itself, was not mentioned at Kayak website during the booking.

Very good|Feb 2018The car which was a large Fiat was good except that the front fender was loose when the car was given to me. It got looser as the trip went on and I finally called to get a replacement car. Eldan, the agency that represents Alamo, was very good at replacing the car but their main Jerusalem office was all but closed because of the visit by Vice President Pence. Their representative Sarah at headquarters steered us to a smaller office nearby in Givan Shaul, but they didn't have a lot of cars. We got a large dirty 4 wheel drive Diesel Dacia when we indicated to the manager David that we could drive a manual shift. Adriel, the manager of the downtown branch who was in Givan Shaul because he couldn't get to the office either because of Pence, said that we could return the Dacia to him downtown in two days and get the exact same type of car that we had had before but with an attached fender. We did that and the Eldan team was good to their word. At all times, everyone on the Eldan team, was courteous and resourceful at getting our problems solved. It's not how you react when situations are simple that tests the mettle of an organization, but how you react when there is a problem. The Eldan team was great. I would use them again.
Because of all of the confusion, as described in the what went right section at left, I was charged for a fillup of gas. When I got the Dacia in the Givan Shaul office, because of the confusion, I was given the car with a partially filled tank of gas. I returned the car with the same partially filled tank of gas as well. I was charged for the partial fillup. I will have to call Eldan in Israel to get that charge removed. I do feel that they will do this because of the treatment I have received from them to date.

Poor|Aug 2017The manager at Ben Gurion airport for Eldan rentals, the presumed local Alamo affiliate, was very nice.
I had reserved 2 infant car seats but upon arrival the 2 car seats presented to us were filthy and worse, had no restraining straps. The manager was nice and apologized and offered us an "upgraded" rental, which turned out to be the Dacia. The transmission on the Dacia was the worst on any car that I've driven. It was rough, sluggish, jerked and at times made us feel as if we were in a rodeo riding a bucking bronco. There is no Park setting on this transmission, only Drive, Neutral and Reverse, so that when parking or waiting at a traffic light on an incline, the parking brake must be utilized. I don't know if the Dacia that we received was a lemon, or whether our experience is characteristic.

Poor|May 2021The car was a hybrid in a country where gas is very expensive. I appreciated that. Too bad the hybrid had to come after the first car that had issues. One of them being a faulty tire immediately when I drove off the lot.

Poor|Oct 2018Returning the car at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv is a nightmare. The Hertz return is not in the same location as the return for all the other agencies. The airport signage for Hertz is completely inadequate. Nav apps (Google maps) takes one to the wrong level. We drove around for 100 minutes (!) and literally could not find where to leave the car. This is a big problem when there is an international flight to catch.
