The peak season depends on what kind of thing you want to do. Spring, summer and autumn are very popular times for those who would rather enjoy pleasant weather and beautiful scenery. You’ll be able to find discounted flight tickets too if you book in advance. Which airlines operate flights to Switzerland?
There are several airlines that provide cheap flights to Switzerland with the main ones being Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways and Swiss. Which one you decide to fly with depends entirely on your budget and your preference. You’ll generally find the cheapest flights to Switzerland with Ryanair and easyJet, however, you’ll have to sacrifice a bit of comfort for the cheaper flight tickets. British Airways offer complimentary food and drinks onboard although you’ll pay more for the flights to Switzerland and due to the relatively short flight time you might be better off to go with one of the budget airlines. Just be cautious if you are travelling during the peak seasons as Ryanair are known for increasing the prices of checked in baggage which can dent your wallet.
How to get from the airport to the city centre?
Geneva:
The airport is only 4km away from the city so finding a way to get there isn’t too difficult. One of the easiest options is to jump on a train directly from the airport. They run very regularly and go to the train station in the centre, taking approximately 6 minutes. Failing that there are many different bus services so once your flights to Switzerland have landed you can speak to one of the drivers or the information centre to find out which bus is best for you to get to where you want to be. You can also opt for a taxi however these are very expensive, especially when compared to the fare of a train or bus ticket. Taxis are convenient though if you have a lot of baggage with you and want to get dropped off directly outside of your hotel.
Basel:
The airport Basel is actually in France yet it is only 4km away from the city centre of Basel. The best way to get there would be to jump on the number 50 bus which stops practically right outside of the airport. It’s cheap and doesn’t take long to take you to the train station in Basel. From there you can walk into the centre or jump into a taxi. Taking a taxi from the airport will cost you an extortionate amount of money but if there are a few of you to split the fare it can be more manageable.
