Many travellers find that the Tashkent metro is almost as much a work of art as it is a handy way to get around. Journeys by metro are very cheap, and there are just three lines so the system is easy to navigate. There is also a good network of buses and trams if you prefer to travel above ground. Taxis and hire cars are another good option. However, be aware that in the last few years, many of the hotels and streets in Tashkent have been completely renamed. That means that your taxi driver might not always know the ‘new’ name for your destination. So, it is a good idea to research the ‘old’ names of places you want to go just in case.

The closest airport is Tashkent International Airport (TAS), which is conveniently located 7.5 miles (12 km) from the centre of the city. Take an airport shuttle bus, a taxi, or hire a car to get you to your destination. Sharing a taxi with other travellers going the same way will help you to really reduce the cost of your journey if you go for this option.
