When is the best time to fly to Thailand?
Peak season:
The weather does vary around Thailand but generally the best time to visit in from November to March. You’ll need to secure your flights to Thailand well in advance, sometimes as much as five months before you plan to fly, to make the best savings on your flight tickets. Flights to Thailand during the peak season can be almost twice as much as those in the off season so make sure to compare the pros and cons and decide where and when will be best for you. Take into account any festivals that might be on as this will increase the cost of flights to Thailand, although you will get to immerse yourself into the culture better.
Off season:
It can be unbearably hot from March to May so avoid travelling to certain parts of Thailand then. You’ll find the cheapest flights to Thailand from May to October as the rainy season hits parts of the country. The temperatures are still hot but not too sticky or humid so it can be a pleasant time of year to secure your flight tickets. Which airlines operate flights to Thailand?
The major airlines that provide flights to Thailand are Etihad Airways, KLM, Lufthansa and British Airways. With British Airways you can join their executive club for free and start earning points for discounts on future flight tickets and other gifts. They also provide complimentary snacks and drinks during the flights to Thailand making them a great option. Etihad are also a fantastic airline that provides high standards of comfort, service in in-flight entertainment for a slightly higher price. How to get from the airport to the city centre?
Bangkok Airport:
The city is around 30km from the airport so it’s best to know how you’ll get there before you take your flights to Thailand. You can get the Airport Express service from level 1 of the airport. It will cost around 150 baht and is a great way of travel if you don’t mind a slightly crowded journey. Taxis are available from the same area outside of the airport but insist on getting a receipt and haggle for a price. The drivers are notorious at overcharging so make sure you agree on a price before you get in.
Phuket Airport:
The easiest way is to jump on a bus from the airport and just hop off whenever you’ve reached your final destination. The airport bus runs every hour from 06:30 until 21:30 and is a cheap method of travel. You can use metered taxis if you are in a rush or don’t want to wait for the bus but these will cost a lot more. If there are a couple of you travelling you can split the fare and make it more worthwhile. If you are a confident driver then you can rent a car from the airport. This is a great choice if you plan to drive around different parts of Thailand but if you’re just going to go to your hotel then it might be more of an inconvenience.
